Later Roger Snape in the 1525 Subsidy Rolls of Sussex. The name derived from the old English word 'snaep' or the Old Norman word 'snap', which means 'dweller by the pasture'.

He enlisted into the Air Force at Fort Bragg, North Carolina on November 15, 1945. He was relieved from active duty on October 31, 1966 and officially retired on November 1, 1966 as a Technical Sergeant, Air Force # AF14197214.
His records show that he served or was stationed in the following locations: Schilling AFB, Salina, Kansas; Westover AFB, Chicopee Falls, Mass.; Andrews AFB, Washington, D.C.; Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nevada; Smyrna AFB, Smyrna, Tennessee; Maxwell AFB, Maxwell Field, Alabama; Sq Narsarssuak AB, Greenland (isolated); St. Johns AB, New finland; Narch AFB, California; Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; Vouzon, France; Japanese Islands, FEAF; and Germany. Upon enlistment, he was listed as a Baptist, having scars on both of his lower legs, amputation of a 3rd toe, 20/20 vision, 15/15 hearing, weighed 152 lbs, with blonde hair and blue eyes. He stated that he worked on his father’s farm for $15 a week for 2 years on a 2 horse farm, but had no drive tractor or farm truck. He had completed 7 grades of grammar school, 2 grades of high school and received his GED in 1960. He received numerous Good Conduct Medals along with: SAEMR SOG-92, APGCM, SOG-24-11, NDSM AFR, AFLSA w/3 OLC, AFR 900-10, AFLSA w/2 BC, National Defense Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal. For five days, September 13, 1946 - September 17, 1946 he took leave of absence without proper authority. On June 9, 1952 he was granted Final Clearance for ‘SECRET’. He was qualified on the submachine gun, pistol and a SS on the carbine. He worked as a Radar Maintenance Tech; NCOIC Carrier Sect.; Ground Radar Maintenance Tech; BOM Nav Systems Mechanic; Radio Relay Equipment Supervisor with Ground Radio Maintenance Branch; Maintenance Supervisor; Site Chief and GEEIA Monitor. He married Doris McKinney in 1977 and there were no children from this marriage. He died on October 23, 1986 from Respiratory failure due to squamous cell carcinoma of the right mainstem brochiss. He is buried in the new cemetery beside the Baptist Church in the Grassy Creek Community. |
