First found in Picardy in Northern France, where the family has been prominent for centuries, and held a family seat with lands and manors. FLOY BIDDIX SPRUCE PINE - Floy McKinney Biddix, 85, of Halltown Road, died Sunday, Mar. 14, 2004 in a Spruce Pine healthcare facility. She was the daughter of the late Melvin and Mary Jane Autrey McKinney, and wife of the late Lloyd Biddix. She was a member of Berry Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Wanda Bennett, Shirley Calhoun and Billie Jean Trombley, all of Spruce Pine; four sons, Blaine Biddix, Jim Biddix and Richard Biddix, all of Marion, and Mike Biddix of Spruce Pine; one brother, Barney McKinney of Spruce Pine; three sisters, Maxine Page of Charlotte, Lillian Walker of Elkin and Ruby Burleson; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Berry Chapel Baptist Church. Rev. Greg Hollifield officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour at the church. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine was in charge of arrangements.

Widow Hannah Bittick, aged 96, a resident of Grassy Creek (present Mitchell County, then Yancey), appeared before David Byrd, J. P., on May 25, 1850. Her husband served in the Dragoon Corps of the Continental Army in the Company of Captain Greenwood. He entered the service as a volunteer, near the middle of April, 1778, and served two tours of duty, enrolling at Hillsborough, in Orange County, North Carolina. He was in the Battle of Hillsborough and in several small skirmishes nearby. He was marched to Guilford County, but Hannah does not remember if he fought at Guilford Court House.
In support of her claim, she submitted a little family-record booklet "in the hand writing of my husband John Bitticks."
John was born ca. 1748 and died in Yancey (now Mitchell) County in 1836.
